CITY OF NEWARK REMINDS RESIDENTS THAT CITY HALL WILL BE CLOSED

ON MONDAY, JANUARY 20, IN OBSERVANCE OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.’S BIRTHDAY

Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected;

Trash and recycling pick-up will not take place

Newark, NJ – January 17, 2025 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka reminded residents today that City Hall will be closed, and all non-emergency Newark municipal services will be suspended on Monday, January 20, 2025, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday. Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services personnel will work as usual.

 

Trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, January 20. Trash pickup and bottle and can recycling will resume in those affected areas on Thursday, January 23. Paper, cardboard, and fiber recycling will resume on Monday, January 27.

The Department of Health and Community Wellness’ inspection services, transportation for seniors, and health clinic, will not operate on Monday, January 20. In addition, the Bureau of Vital Statistics will be closed. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates, marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall.

The Municipal Court will also be closed on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the websitewww.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
