IBID Launches Ironbound District Clean Team Night Shift for Holiday Season

Additional supplemental streetscape cleaning service a prelude to expanded Quality of Life program for 2023.

NEWARK, N.J., November 4, 2022 – The Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID) has added a night shift to its Clean Team’s garbage pick-up services during the months of November and December to enhance the impact of the IBID’s supplemental quality of life initiatives. The pilot program, with night shift cleaning service on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings, is a prelude to an expanded Quality of Life supplemental services program that the IBID will launch in 2023 and will initially focus on upper Ferry Street between Newark Penn Station and Five Corners. The IBID has been providing supplemental Clean Team services in support of Newark’s DPW since the organization was founded in 2000.

“As our district has grown and prospered, the supplemental services we provide in support of Newark’s DPW have become increasingly vital to maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for the people who live and work in our community, as well as the many people who visit our district for great dining, shopping and entertainment,” noted Vince Baglivo, the IBID’s Executive Director. “Traditionally, the holiday season has been one of the busiest times of year in the Ironbound District, and we thought it would be the perfect time to get things rolling, before we launch an expansion of our Quality of Life services in 2023.”

In addition to supplemental solid waste collection, the IBID’s Clean Team also assists with graffiti and illegal flyer and sticker removal, as well as streetscape cleaning and identification and removal of illegally dumped trash.

“Our contractor, Commercial District Services, has earned the praise of our business community and residents, for their hard work and dedication in support of Newark’s DPW,” added IBID President and longtime district business owner Manny Lopes. “The IBID, working with local business owners and Councilman Michael Silva, is determined to raise the bar even higher when it comes to the supplemental services we provide because our district is a true gem for the City of Newark; our stakeholders have seen the need and the IBID has responded.”
