“TASTE OF NEWARK;” TWO STREETS WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
Restaurants will be able to extend outdoor dining into the street on Ferry and Mulberry Streets on three specific dates: August 21, September 4, and September 18, from noon to 9 p.m.
Newark, NJ—August 15, 2022— Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that the City of Newark will kick off its Summer Outdoor Dining Initiative “Taste of Newark” on Sunday, August, 21, at two locations. It will continue on Sunday, September 4, and Sunday, September 18. On those three Sundays, restaurants on Ferry Street and Mulberry Street will be allowed to extend their outdoor dining into the street, from noon to 9 p.m. On these dates, these corridors will be temporarily closed off to traffic to create outdoor open dining space.
“Newark has a long history as a center for fine dining with nearly every culture and cuisine in the world here,” said Mayor Baraka. “And offering outdoor dining adds a more enjoyable atmosphere for customers and restaurants. We want families and visitors alike to come out, enjoy outdoor dining during the summer, and experience everything the great City of Newark has to offer.”
The “Taste of Newark” Summer Outdoor Dining Initiative locations are as follows:
· Ferry Street from Wilson Avenue to Peter Francisco Park.
· Mulberry Street from Market Street to Lafayette Street, including Prudential’s Championship Plaza.
Restaurants participating must meet either of the following requirements:
· Ferry Street: The restaurant must have an entrance on Ferry Street.
· Mulberry Street: The restaurant must have their main location on Edison Place between Broad Street and Mulberry Street or Market Street between Broad and Mulberry Streets.
“Summertime is a time of celebration, gathering with friends and family, enjoying the weather, and of course, eating all of our favorite foods! Mayor Baraka’s Outdoor Dining experience brings all those elements together and showcases Newark’s dynamic culinary offerings in two iconic City locations downtown and on Ferry Street. The opportunity for open air dining will allow residents and visitors alike to safely enjoy all Newark has to offer this summer,” said Executive Director for Newark City Parks Foundation, Inc., Marcy S. DePina.
