NEWARK’S CITYWIDE ‘LOVE NEWARK, KEEP IT CLEAN’ CAMPAIGN RESUMES WITH DEPLOYMENT
OF DUMPSTERS IN ALL FIVE WARDS BETWEEN MAY 18 AND SEPTEMBER 28 TO FIGHT TRASH AND LITTER
Residents will be provided with opportunities to dispose of trash on non-pick-up days at centralized points
Newark, NJ—May 8, 2024—Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that the Department of Public Works (DPW) is resuming its “Love Newark Keep it Clean” campaign by deploying trailers of rubbish removal equipment and dumpsters to each ward beginning on Saturday, May 18, and continuing two Saturdays a month, through Saturday, September 28. A schedule of dates and locations follows.
Starting on Saturday, May 18, at 8 a.m., DPW staff will join forces with residents at designated staging areas to distribute cleaning materials such as trash bags, brooms, and shovels necessary to remove litter and bulky trash from the area. Dumpsters will be positioned for proper disposal.
“The success of last year’s ‘Love Newark Keep It Clean’ campaign is very strong evidence that Newarkers care about keeping our hometown beautiful, clean and healthful,” said Mayor Baraka. “I hope all of us, in every ward, try to outdo ourselves this year, and show the world what ‘Newark and Proud of It!’ looks like!”
Days for Dumpster deployment are all on Saturdays, and are as follows:
- May 18
- May 25
- June 22
- June 29
- July 20
- July 27
- August 17
- August 24
- September 21
- September 28
The dumpster locations are:
- North Ward: 61 Verona Avenue
- South Ward: 98 Frelinghuysen Avenue
- West Ward: 256 South 12th Street
- Central Ward: 53–59 16th Avenue (across from CityPlex 12 parking lot)
- East Ward: Ironbound Recreation Center, 226 Rome Street
These Saturday clean-ups will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., until Saturday, September 28.
In addition, DPW will expand its cleaning and maintenance schedule in the areas before the upcoming scheduled Saturday cleanups. The extended cleanups will include the removal of litter and debris, and illegal dumping from municipal parks and city streets.
