CITY OF NEWARK REMINDS RESIDENTS: ALL NON-UNIFORMED CITY SERVICES INCLUDING MUNICIPAL COURT WILL BE SUSPENDED
IN OBSERVANCE OF NEW YEAR’S DAY ON MONDAY, JANUARY 2
Garbage and street-sweeping services will be suspended; recycling collection will take place;
Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected

Newark, NJ – December 30, 2022 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka reminded residents today that City of Newark non-emergency municipal services will be suspended on Monday, January 2, for the observance of New Year’s Day, which takes place on Sunday, January 1. Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected. Curbside trash will not be picked up and street sweeping will not occur on Monday, January 2. Recycling collection will take place.

Garbage collection will resume in Zone A on Thursday, January 5. It will resume in Zone B on Tuesday, January 3. Residents must place their refuse at their curbs the evening before those days, and pick-ups will be made as regularly scheduled.

The Municipal Court will also be closed on Monday, January 2. However, a judge will be available to preside over bail hearings for defendants in custody, on Monday, January 2. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
