NEWARK LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE FOR DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS;
PAGE WILL PROVIDE “ONE-STOP SHOP” FOR CITY CLEANLINESS SERVICES
Residents, businesses, and property owners can find the latest information
on trash and recycling collection, report illegal dumping, and make appointments for bulk pick-up
Newark, NJ – November 18, 2024 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today the launch of the new and improved Department of Public Works (DPW) website, which will serve as DPW’s central hub for the latest information and updates on trash and recycling collections, street sweeping, and all citywide cleanliness services.
“The updated DPW website meets the needs of residents and businesses in Newark with the responsiveness and efficiency they deserve,” said Mayor Baraka. “The site is an interactive portal for finding trash pickup schedules, reporting illegal dumping, making bulk items pickup appointments and other ways to keep our streets free of refuse. I thank our DPW team for developing this website.”
The new website can be found at dpw.newarknj.gov .
“Modeled after the Department of Water and Sewer Utilities’ website, our new DPW website provides a one-stop resource for scheduling and service information, including tips on proper disposal of household trash and recycling,” said DPW Interim Director Tyreek Rolon.
“We are working hard to strengthen communication among residents and our essential services departments,” said Newark Water and Sewer Utilities Director Kareem Adeem, who led the effort to improve the website while he served as the DPW’s interim director. “By embracing all available technology, we continuously improve our transparency and customer experience.”
The new DPW website allows residents to:
- Access a live calendar with holidays, special collection days, and other changes to the regular collections schedule.
- Insert their address and find the collections calendar for their zone, including regular garbage, recycling, bulk items, and yard waste pick up.
- Make appointments for pickup of mattresses, bulk items, and household appliances (also known as “white goods,” which include refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, and air conditioners).
- Find their nearest service center and hours of operation to drop off trash, recycling, bulk items, and yard waste.
- Submit reports for problems, such as illegal dumping, missed pick up, streetlight outages, and potholes.
- Volunteer for citywide and neighborhood cleanups.
- Pick up recycling bins at the DPW Headquarters at 62 Frelinghuysen Avenue.
- See items that DPW will not pick up, including renovation or construction debris, drywall, sharp glass, toilets, automotive parts, roofing shingles, and more.
- Read about the best trash disposal practices and recycling habits on its Recycle Coach platform.
Residents are also invited to keep up with live updates from DPW on the official Facebook (@City of Newark Department of Public Works) and Instagram accounts (@newarkpublicworks).
